Trinity Vision Parish Council Response The Parish Council met on Tuesday 7th October 2003 and agreed a response to the Trinity College "Vision for Felixstowe, Walton & the Trimleys", pdf (37kb). (08/10/03) It has come to the attention of the Parish Council that there is now a "Second Vision”, this concerns land to the north of Felixstowe, we assume this to be to the east of Gulpher Road; the proposer believes that the area of land proposed will be able to accommodate the housing allocation which Regional Guidance will make known early in 2004. (19/09/03) “The scheme will allow surrounding villages such as the
Trimleys to maintain their independence instead of becoming a suburb of
Felixstowe.” The Press Release reads: Development of the northern
edge of Felixstowe is considered the best option for providing for future growth
projections with a scheme tailored to actual need. A consortium of local landowners believe such a scheme would allow for enhancement of the landscape between the current urban fringe and more distant heritage coastal area. Existing recreational facilities and cycle routes would be integrated with new woodland planting and perhaps a country park. A key feature of
developing the area would be a direct access from the A154 Candlet Road
preventing further strain on already well utilised local road networks. It will
mean infrastructure could be specifically designed to meet 21st century
requirements, rather than attempting to update the existing network. Links into
the area from existing residential areas will also open up wider informal and
formal recreation facilities. Whilst development of
Greenfield sites are included, Brownfield sites will also be used and much of
the land is already not in agricultural production. The area is also the closest
available land to central Felixstowe and this increases the potential take up of
sustainable transport alternatives, yet those working further affield will have
quick and easy access to the A14 without prejudicing existing residential areas. The scheme will also
allow surrounding villages such as the Trimleys to maintain their independence
instead of becoming suburbs of Felixstowe. The consortium are currently drawing up ideas for the scheme and will submit details to Suffolk Coastal District Council in late summer.
